Frequently Asked Questions
Who can use the system?
The system is initially available to the Environment Agency NFM team while undergoing validation.
What is a keyword and how is it used?
When you digitise a feature in ArcGIS, you enter a keyword from the NFM Keywords or BNG Keywords page. That keyword must exactly match a record in the iCAT database. The matched record supplies the metadata used by iCAT (e.g. attenuation values, associated grants, and costs) so that, on import, the system recognises the feature and calculates the relevant outputs.
Where do attenuation values come from?
These are supplied by the Environment Agency NFM team based on their research and experience.
Why do some features have the same name as a grant?
Some features can have multiple associated grants, so features have unique codes. Where a feature is linked to only one grant, the feature code may match the grant code.
Do I have to enter a BNG habitat code when digitising features?
No. You can enter only Natural Flood Management keywords, BNG habitat codes are optional.
Can I change the size of a feature already added to a catchment?
Yes. Go to the Manage Data page, select the feature you want to edit, and choose Edit. Update the size and save.
