Who can use the system?

The system is initially available to the Environment Agency NFM team while undergoing validation.

What is a keyword and how is it used?

When you digitise a feature in ArcGIS, you enter a keyword from the NFM Keywords or BNG Keywords page. It must exactly match a feature or habitat in ICAT, which supplies the attenuation, costs and grants used to calculate the results on import.

Where do attenuation values come from?

These are supplied by the Environment Agency NFM team based on their research and experience.

Why tag features rather than grants?

One piece of work often matches more than one grant: tree planting with guards is paid by a planting grant and a guard grant together, and woodland creation might be funded by Countryside Stewardship or by EWCO. A feature groups those grants and also holds the storage and costs the report needs. Where a feature has only one grant, its code is often the grant's code.

Do I have to enter a BNG habitat code when digitising features?

No. BNG habitat codes are optional; Natural Flood Management keywords on their own are fine.

Can I change the size of a feature already added to a catchment?

Yes. On Manage Data, choose Edit on the row, update the size and save.
